Windows does have a function to share files and folders through a local network, but if you haven't figured out how to set it up correctly, or you'd like an alternate method of managing your online resources, you should take a look at an application like Lanshark so that you can download files from a remote computer.
Lanshark's interface and the way it works will remind you of any P2P. You just need to indicate the directory that you want to share with the rest of the users on your network, and the location where you will be saving your downloads. Lanshark incorporates a web server that allows you to use the program from Internet Explorer or Firefox.
You can manually explore directory content or use the search function. Thumbnail previews will help you find the images that you'd like to take from a remote computer. You don't need to install the program in each computer, since Lanshark has a portable version. The program is available for both Windows and Linux users.
